Who doesn’t love popcorn? One of my all-time favorite snacks, we make popcorn all the time in my house. I love it because it totally curbs my craving for something salty and crunchy, and it isn’t packed with calories and fat. Another (not-so-low-calorie) hit in my house is bacon ... So, when I decided I wanted to try making a more gourmet and elaborate popcorn recipe, I knew that if I could combine popcorn + bacon (and give up on trying to have a really healthy snack), my family would go crazy for it.

I was right. This popcorn recipe is so delish I had to make it twice because Britt and I ate the first bowl (she claims we were quality control for my kids). If you are a fan of popcorn and bacon, then you must try making this recipe — Even though it’s not quite as healthy as naked popcorn, I promise it will become a new favorite go-to for those times you want to indulge!

  • One bag of microwave popcorn (or you can stovetop cook your own bag)

  • ½ lb of bacon, cooked with the grease separated into a glass dish

  • ½ cup of fresh chopped chives

  • Sea salt and pepper to taste

  • Cook your bacon in a saucepan on the stove. Once it is cooked, separate out the grease into a glass dish.

  • Set aside two pieces of bacon, and crush up into little bits. The remaining bacon can be stored in the fridge (I used mine for BLT sandwiches).

  • Next, using the same pan you cooked bacon in, lightly sauté your chives until they are tender (this will only take a couple minutes).

  • Pop your bag of popcorn in the microwave according to instructions (or cook stovetop). Once popped, transfer the popcorn into a large bowl.

  • Next, drizzle the bacon grease over the bowl until your popcorn is lightly coated (you don’t want it to be too greasy). Drizzle slowly and mix well.

  • Sprinkle sea salt and pepper over your popcorn to taste and mix.

  • Finally, mix in your bacon bits and fresh chopped chives.

  • Serve and enjoy!

Let me know if you make this recipe! Tag #thesweetlife on social media, I would love to see how it turns out!
