FALL COOKING: GET INSPIRED AT THE FARMERS' MARKET

On those weekend mornings when you just want to stay in bed, making the effort to get motivated and get outside can be hard, but we all know it’s the healthy alternative to lazing around all morning. I don’t necessarily mean you have to pop out of bed at 6am for a grueling exercise routine. Just starting the day with fresh air, walking around to get your blood circulating, and taking time to break free of your regular weekday routine feels so good.

One of my favorite places to venture on weekend mornings is to our local Farmers' Market. Fall is my preferred time of year of to do this too — The air is crisp, the fruits and vegetables offered are unique to the season, and the summer crowds wind down.

Knowing I’m supporting locally sourced food and eating organic are two things that are really important to me. I also love chatting with the farmers and vendors about their process, their favorite seasonal offerings, and how they got started. Often times it’s not just produce I will pick up, but also eggs, cheese and poultry that haven’t been raised with hormones or antibiotics.

I try to have my recipes laid out for the week, so I can go to the farmers market and know exactly what I need. Although, sometimes I learn about a new veggie or fruit that rocks my world and I wonder how I lived without it before (butternut squash, anyone?). In the colder months, I find myself in the kitchen more, and therefore, investigating and trying out new recipes. Cyn and I are both healthy eaters and love to make our meals as packed with veggies as possible — We are constantly exchanging healthy recipes with one another.

Today I’m sharing with you some of the healthy recipes that are on my list to eat this fall. And of course, you can pick up all of the ingredients at your local Farmers' Market. Keep in mind, your community’s market might not necessarily take place on Sunday, so check your local listings! I can promise you will not only taste the difference in the produce you purchase, but also feel it! The flavors seeping out of these dishes will make it seem like you’re at a farm to table restaurant without even leaving the house.

How do you take advantage of your local farmers market? Share your pics and tag #TheSweetLife, we love trying new dishes!
