RECOGNISING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ENERGY

Depika is a close friend of mine, and has been such a beautiful and positive light in my life. I've had the pleasure of working with her for the past couple years, and now I consider her a friend. I whole heartedly believe in her philosophy, and my husband Adam and I even had her work with us on our wedding day to keep us grounded. I am so excited that she has agreed to write for you all about identifying and shifting energy in your life. I hope her words inspire you all like they have inspired me. XO BRITT

Recognizing the difference between Positive & Negative Energy — We all have people in our lives that we spend time with that makes us feel uplifted, inspired, happy, calm, peaceful and positive. We also have people in our lives that makes us feel drained, stressed, depleted, frustrated, annoyed and negative.

The same is true with places we visit, sometimes for some of us being in nature makes us feel recharged, uplifted, peaceful whereas some towns, cities, homes, malls may make us feel drained, tired, depleted. Also, our thoughts and the way in which we talk to ourselves in our heads can make us either feel good about ourselves or bad depending if the thoughts are positive or negative.

The thing is we are always exchanging energy, within ourselves, with other people that we interact with or share space with (homes, office, mall, gym, pool), as well as places we visit and objects.

Inner Dialogue

One way to start to notice your energy is to take a moment to silently watch and listen to the voices in your head, without judgement and try not to control them, just let them flow through. Are the words/conversation kind, nurturing, encouraging with a soft gentle supportive uplifting tone?

For example:

• ‘So amazing. They are such kind people.’

• ‘Good job. Well done. Wow, awesome.’

• ‘Love you/it. I love them so much. I am so grateful.’

• ‘This is/ you are beautiful. I feel like the luckiest person in the world.’

With thoughts like this, you are more likely to find yourself in a GOOD MOOD, creating more POSITIVE ENERGY around you, attracting positive people and situations. Or, do you notice that the words/conversations in your mind aggressive, unkind, hurtful with a loud harsh unsupportive demeaning tone?

For example:

• ‘Such an idiot. They are horrible people.’

• ‘Incredibly stupid. Why do I have to do everything myself?’

• ‘Everyone is absolutely useless. Life is not fair’

• ‘Hate you/it. I am all alone. No one understands me. This always happens to me’

When you have negative thoughts, you are more likely to find yourself in a BAD MOOD, and creating more NEGATIVE ENERGY around you, attracting negative people and situations.

Sometimes it helps to write out your thoughts on paper they may be directed to yourself or to another person. Then you can go through what you have written, and ask yourself: ‘Does this thought make me feel better or worse? Drained or uplifted? Annoyed or peaceful? Frustrated or empowered? Envious or grateful? Good or bad? Happy or sad?’

Reflecting on your thoughts will help you understand yourself better and will help you become aware of your inner dialogue. The more aware you become, the easier it is for you to recognize the dialogues that create a positive vibe vs. a negative one. You then have more power to choose the way you feel about yourself, and the life situations around you.

Exercise to Differentiate Between Positive & Negative Energy

To understand this a bit better just take a moment and ask yourself the following questions:

1. Who makes me feel good?

2. What makes me feel good?

3. What places makes me feel good?

Now think of all these things that make you feel GOOD all at once, taking another moment to notice what happens in your body. Do you find yourself smiling? Feeling lighter? Relaxed? Do you see lighter/brighter colors? Experience any nice soothing nurturing sensations?

Take note as this is what POSITIVE ENERGY feels like for you!

Let’s repeat this exercise again, but this time replace the word good for bad.

1. Who makes me feel bad?

2. What makes me feel bad?

3. What places makes me feel bad?’

Now think of all these things that make you feel BAD all at once, taking another moment to notice what happens in your body. Do you find yourself tightening up? Feeling heavy? stressed? Do you see duller or darker colors? Experience any icky, colder sensations?

Take note as this is what NEGATIVE ENERGY feels like for you! Understanding what positive vs. negative energy is for you is the first step to controlling and eventually shifting your energy!

Next time, I’ll be talking about how to learn to shift your negative energy (it’s not as hard as you may think!).

Warm wishes and love,
